Abby’s Heroes Charity of The Year Recap for 2024

We are ecstatic to share the details from our first Charity of the Year! Throughout 2024, our team, clients, and candidates participated in various fundraising activities to reach our £2,500 target. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, donations, and support, we successfully achieved this by the end of the year! We are honoured to have made a difference in the lives of children and their families who need it most at Southampton General Hospital. Read on to discover what we accomplished throughout 2024 to help reach this goal!

Tom’s Half Marathon

The year kicked off with an incredible achievement as Tom flew over to Cyprus to take on the Logicom Pathos Half Marathon. Tackling the challenging 13.2 miles, he crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 2 hours and 12 minutes. Not only did he smash his personal goal, but he also made a significant impact by boosting our JustGiving page with generous donations. His commitment to both his fitness and the cause set a powerful tone for the year ahead, inspiring us all to push our limits and support those in need.

Maddie, Cameron, Rich, Luke & Alex’s Fire Walk

Next, our team took part in an unforgettable challenge at Abby’s Heroes’ Fire Walk event held at The Four Horseshoes. Participants were dared to walk over fire, and our brave employees Maddie, Cameron, Rich, Luke, and Alex stepped up to the challenge without hesitation! Thanks to the generosity of those involved, the donations from this event allowed us to reach 25% of our yearly fundraising goal, a milestone that motivated employees to raise even more!

Alex & Luke’s Abseil of Spinnaker Tower

On the 15th of June, brothers Luke Wing and Alex Wing took on an extraordinary challenge, abseiling down the iconic Spinnaker Tower! Despite the windy conditions and some initial doubts about the event going ahead, they were cleared to proceed and bravely descended the 100-metre height. Their efforts helped boost our JustGiving page to an impressive £893.

Euros Sweepstake by Maddie

With the Euros kicking off in June, Maddie organized a football sweepstake, where half of the proceeds went to the lucky winner and half went to Abby’s Heroes. Employees were encouraged throughout the year to come up with their own fundraising ideas, as every little bit helped us move closer to our end goal and supporting Abby’s Heroes. The sweepstake was a big success, with the added bonus of England making it to the final!

Sarah’s Homemade Keyrings

Our creative employee Sarah put her own spin on fundraising by crafting beautiful rainbow keyrings to sell, with all proceeds going towards our JustGiving page. Inspired by the colourful and magical logo of Abby’s Heroes, these vibrant keyrings became a hit. They were sold throughout the office and at various fundraising events, raising both awareness and vital funds for the cause.

FBR Thruxton Raceday

On September 20th, we hosted a charity Thruxton Raceday, giving clients and candidates the chance to get behind the wheel and support our Charity of the Year, Abby’s Heroes. Nine Southampton businesses competed for the trophy, with the day starting off with a bacon and sausage bap and a presentation on Abby’s Heroes’ incredible work. After a safety briefing and morning practice, everyone enjoyed a pie and mash lunch before the big endurance race. The winners were awarded trophies, and thanks to ticket sales and Abby’s Heroes merchandise, we raised an amazing £1,562. Thank you to everyone who made the day such a success!

Christmas Jumper Day

To wrap up the year in festive style while continuing our fundraising efforts, we organized a Christmas Jumper Day. Everyone joined in the fun, wearing their best holiday sweaters and making a small donation, which helped boost our final fundraising total.

Looking Ahead

We are so grateful for the incredible efforts and generosity shown throughout the year. Every event, no matter how big or small, contributed to our success in reaching our £2500 goal for Abby’s Heroes, supporting families and children during challenging times. The funds raised will help them arrange activities like pizza nights for children and their families in the Piam Brown ward, fun day trips for the kids, and essential welfare packs.

We’re excited to announce that we will be revealing our next Charity of the Year in February. We can’t wait to continue making a positive impact on another worthy cause, stay tuned for more details!

Why December is the Perfect Time to Start Your Job Search

Why December is the Perfect Time to Start Your Job SearchDecember might be a month filled with festivities, family gatherings, and end-of-year reflections, but it’s also an ideal time to take charge of your career. Contrary to popular belief, the holiday season offers some great opportunities for job seekers. Here’s why December should be on your radar if you’re looking for a new role in construction or any other industry.

Less Competition

A lot of people put their job searches on hold during December, assuming employers aren’t hiring. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Employers still need to fill positions, especially as they plan for the new year. With fewer candidates actively applying, your chances of standing out improve massively.

End-of-Year Budgets

Many companies have budgets they need to use up before the year ends, including hiring budgets. This often leads to a surge in job postings as businesses aim to fill roles before January. Being proactive in December could land you a role that perfectly fits your career goals.

Networking Opportunities

The holiday season is full of social events and gatherings, making it a great time to network. Whether it’s a work function, industry event, or even a chat at a Christmas party, these moments can lead to new opportunities. People are often in a more relaxed and generous mood in December, which makes it easier to connect and ask for advice or referrals.

Getting Ahead for the New Year

Employers want to start the new year on a strong footing, so they’re keen to onboard candidates who can hit the ground running in January. Applying in December gives you a head start while others wait until January to begin their search.

Showing Your Commitment

Actively job hunting in December shows that you’re dedicated and motivated. Employers notice candidates who are willing to go the extra mile, even during the holiday season. It creates a positive impression and highlights your enthusiasm for the role.

More Focused Hiring Processes

While some managers might take time off over Christmas, many companies use this quieter period to concentrate on hiring. With fewer distractions, recruiters and hiring managers can take more time reviewing applications and conducting interviews. This means you’re likely to get more attention.

Temporary and Contract Roles

In the construction industry, December often brings an increase in temporary and contract roles. Companies want to finish projects before year-end or prepare for upcoming ones. These roles can be a fantastic way to get your foot in the door, prove your skills, and potentially secure a permanent position.

Why Choose FBR Construction Recruitment?

At FBR Construction Recruitment, we understand the unique dynamics of the job market, especially during the holiday season. Whether you’re looking for your next site-based role or a managerial position, our team is here to guide you through the process. We’ve got strong connections with top employers who are actively hiring, even in December. Don’t let the holiday rush put you off your job search. December is full of opportunities, and with the right approach, you can set yourself up for a successful start to the new year.

The Haunted Hiring Process: Don’t Let Ghosting Haunt Your Recruitment Efforts!

Ah, Halloween – the time for all things spooky. But while we can handle skeletons, witches, and the odd pumpkin spice obsession, there’s one thing that truly sends a chill down our spines in the recruitment world: ghosting.

No, we’re not talking about actual ghosts (though, with some of the spooky construction sites we’ve heard about, we wouldn’t be surprised). We’re talking about recruitment ghosting—that dreaded moment when a candidate vanishes into thin air, or even worse, when a recruiter or client drops off the face of the Earth, leaving a hopeful job seeker in limbo.

At FBR Recruitment, we believe ghosting belongs in haunted houses, not in recruitment. So, let’s take a look at the horrors of ghosting and, more importantly, why you’ll never get spooked by us.

The Phantom Candidate

Picture this: You’ve got a brilliant candidate lined up. They’ve interviewed, they’re perfect for the job, and then… poof! No calls, no emails—nothing but the sound of crickets.
Sure, life happens—things change, and sometimes a role isn’t right for someone. But disappearing without a word? Now that’s just scary.

Ghosted by Clients

Let’s not forget the other side of the coin: when candidates get ghosted by clients. You’ve had a great interview, and you’re eagerly awaiting feedback. Days turn into weeks, and you start to feel like you’re chasing after a shadow. “Did they even receive my application? Am I still in the running? Is this how it ends?”
Cue the spooky music. Candidates might feel like they’re wandering through a fog, trying to figure out where things went wrong. But here’s the thing—it’s not you. At FBR, we make sure you’re never left in the dark. Whether it’s good news or not, you’ll always hear from us. No one likes a cliffhanger, especially when it comes to their career.

The Spooky Disappearing Offer

Imagine this—you’ve gone through multiple rounds of interviews, received a verbal offer, and you’re on cloud nine. Then suddenly… silence. No formal offer letter, no follow-up calls, just radio silence. Days turn into weeks, and the excitement you once felt slowly turns to confusion and doubt. What happened to the job? Did it disappear like a puff of smoke?
This kind of ghosting is particularly frustrating for candidates who’ve emotionally committed to a role, even started making life changes in preparation for the new job. While we can’t always control what happens on the client side, at FBR we believe in keeping candidates informed. If there’s a change in the process or the position gets pulled, you’ll hear from us. And if things don’t go as planned, we’ll support you as much as possible to find something else that’s a great fit. We won’t leave you in the dark wondering what went wrong.

The Gory Details: Why Recruiters Should Never Ghost

Recruitment is about building relationships, and ghosting destroys trust. Imagine applying for a job, getting your hopes up, and then… nothing. It’s frustrating, it’s unprofessional, and frankly, it’s something we think should be buried six feet under.
At FBR, we pride ourselves on staying in touch—whether it’s good news, bad news, or just an update. We won’t leave you hanging in a creepy corridor wondering what went wrong. Transparency and communication are the anti-ghosting spells we cast every day.

How We Keep the Ghosts Away

We believe in keeping the process as human as possible, here’s how we do it:

  1. Communication at Every Step – Whether you’re a candidate or a client, we’ll always keep you in the loop. Waiting to hear back? We’ll let you know where things stand, even if it’s “no news yet.”
  2. Real Feedback – We know feedback is crucial, even when it’s constructive. We’re not afraid to have those conversations that some might shy away from.
  3. No Vanishing Acts – If you’ve applied through us, you’ll always get a response. Even if the fit isn’t right, we’ll let you know and keep you in mind for future roles.

Final Thoughts: No Ghosts Here

So, as the nights get darker and Halloween approaches, remember: FBR Recruitment is here to guide you through the process, no tricks, just treats. Ghosting might be good for a scary movie, but it has no place in the world of construction recruitment.

Happy Halloween from all of us at FBR Recruitment.

How can going green create more construction jobs?

How can going green create more construction jobs?

With a focus on businesses improving their carbon footprint and the effect they have on the environment, it is no wonder that construction companies are also looking at ways to go green. Companies that invest in environmentally friendly processes not only reduce their environmental impact but also improve employee satisfaction.

Why are we at FBR recruitment talking about construction companies going green you may ask? It is important to us as a recruitment agency to ensure that our clients and potential clients position themselves in the best way possible. This means looking at what will help them grow and be able to claim that all important star talent.

Why construction companies should switch to greener materials

One of the key components of creating an environment-friendly process is to replace hazardous materials with renewable and recyclable alternatives like wood or bamboo products.

By doing this, construction companies can ensure that they are not introducing new pollutants into the environment. Additionally, these materials can often be cheaper than their traditional counterparts and require less energy to produce. This cost-saving measure can help businesses allocate funds to other green initiatives such as solar or wind power.

Creation of environmentally friendly products

With construction companies making the change to greener resources and materials they are adding to the demand which in turn creates more job opportunities for other businesses. As well as specialised construction workers who understand the material and how to install it.

The use of renewable building materials also has the potential to create more jobs in the construction industry. By switching from using traditional materials to using more eco-friendly ones, construction companies can create jobs for woodworkers and other craftspeople who can help produce these materials. This could provide a much-needed boost to the economy while also helping to reduce environmental impact.

How environmentally friendly processes improve work satisfaction

Finally, improving environmental processes can have positive impacts on employee morale. By demonstrating that they are taking steps to be more sustainable, companies can show their workers that they care about the environment and are committed to leaving a positive legacy.

This can help improve job satisfaction, as employees know that they are working for an organisation that is making an effort to reduce its environmental impact. This is becoming a key point among younger generations when they are looking for jobs. The environment and how we work to protect it are important to young workers and so they want to be part of the change to improve.

Ensuring you capture key talent is important to building your business. Having the right people on the job who are able to help your business grow and flourish will ultimately help create more construction jobs as your business demand increases.

Creating environmentally friendly processes in construction not only helps reduce environmental damage but also has positive impacts on the economy and job satisfaction. Investing in green initiatives can help businesses save money, create new jobs, and provide their employees with a better work environment. By taking steps towards becoming more sustainable, construction companies can ensure that they are leaving a positive legacy for future generations.
