FBR & HIOWAA Charity Golf Day 2025: A Day of Sunshine, Swings & Support

Friday the 13th might be unlucky for some, but not for us! On Friday 13th June, FBR hosted its annual Charity Golf Day in support of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) and it turned out to be an unforgettable day of sunshine, competition, and community spirit.

Held at the beautiful Bramshaw Golf Course, the event brought together 72 golfers from a fantastic mix of businesses, along with some well-known faces including Matt Ritchie, Guy Whittingham, Paul Jones, and Shane Long.

A Sunny Start with a Meaningful Message

The day teed off with networking, bacon rolls, and raffle ticket sales, creating a buzzing atmosphere from the very beginning. Before everyone hit the fairways, Natalie from HIOWAA delivered an insightful talk about the incredible work the charity does. Many were surprised to learn that HIOWAA is entirely publicly funded, a powerful reminder of just how important days like this really are.

The Venue: Bramshaw Golf Course

Bramshaw’s scenic fairways were in top condition, though some of us definitely found more rough than green. There were whispers of wild deer sightings… but most people were just startled by Jordan’s dramatic bunker meltdown on Hole 7. Between towering trees and sneaky bunkers, Bramshaw was the ideal course, beautiful, challenging, and perfect for blaming the terrain when your shot ended up in a different postcode.

The Charity Cause: Swinging for Good

Though the competition was fierce, the real winner was HIOWAA. After a hard-fought day under the sun, golfers returned to the clubhouse for a well-earned meal, before the raffle and live auction got underway.

We’re pleased to share that, through raffle tickets, the auction and generous donations, we raised £3,200, bringing us within touching distance of our £4,000 annual fundraising target for HIOWAA.
That’s enough to fund one life-saving emergency mission.
Thank you to everyone who gave so generously. Your support helps keep this vital, lifesaving service in the air.

On behalf of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, our patients and those who love them, thank you for taking part in the FBR golf day. Your collective generosity has raised around enough to fund a life-saving mission. Wherever life takes you next, you can always be proud that you saved someone’s life that day- and as that person continues to make memories, they will always be grateful for your support.

Why This Charity is So Important to Us

Supporting HIOWAA resonates deeply with our company values and community focus for two key reasons:

  • Safety and Emergency Response: The air ambulance service is directly connected to the construction industry’s emphasis on safety and emergency preparedness. Since construction projects often involve inherent risks, partnering with an organisation that provides life-saving services aligns perfectly with our commitment to the safety of workers and the wider community.
  • Local Impact: Operating primarily in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, supporting a local charity with a clear regional focus strengthens our company’s ties to the community. It gives us the opportunity to contribute to critical, life-saving services that benefit not only local residents but also the workers we place and support every day.

FBR's Charity of the Year 2025 is the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

FBR's Charity of the Year 2025 is the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air AmbulanceAt FBR Recruitment, we believe in supporting causes that make a real difference. This year, we’re thrilled to announce that our Charity of the Year is the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. So, why did we choose them?

Why We Chose Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance

  1. Safety and Emergency Response
Safety is paramount, especially in industries like construction, where risks are a constant consideration. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is a vital resource in providing emergency care and fast medical transport for those in critical situations. With construction workers and the wider community in mind, partnering with a service that directly impacts emergency preparedness and response aligns perfectly with our own values of safety and care.
  2. Local Impact
We are proud to operate in the heart of Hampshire and supporting a local charity with a regional focus is an important way we can give back to the communities we serve. The air ambulance is there when people need it most, and by supporting them, we’re helping ensure that this life-saving service remains available to residents and workers across our area.
  3. Employee Engagement
Our team is eager to get involved in charitable initiatives as much as possible, and we’re excited to collaborate with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. They’ve been incredibly enthusiastic about working with us and have visited several times to engage with our staff and help plan events. We have a CPR training session scheduled for March, where our employees will learn valuable lifesaving skills. We’re also planning a visit to their airbase to gain a better understanding of their work, meet the team, and see the process in action. We’re truly grateful for these opportunities and believe they will not only enhance our connection with this fantastic charity but also strengthen our fundraising efforts.

Our Fundraising Plan for the Year
To help raise as much as we can for this incredible charity, we’ve got a range of exciting events and initiatives lined up throughout the year:

  • Charity Golf Day
We’re kicking things off with the first FBR charity golf day, packed with games like Beat the Pro, Win the Wheelbarrow, a Prize Auction and the HIOWAA will even be bringing along their own helicopter stimulator. It’s sure to be a great day out, with plenty of opportunities to have fun while supporting a fantastic cause!
  • Charity Race Day at Thruxton
In September, we’ll be back for another Charity Race Day at Thruxton! It’s always a thrilling event, and this year, we’ll be adding something extra special, a tour of the airbase! Since the air ambulance service is so close to us, this is the perfect chance to learn more about the incredible work they do and see the operations up close.
  • Employee Challenges and Office Initiatives
Our team is going all in, taking on their own challenges and participating in a variety of office initiatives throughout the year. From sponsored events to friendly competitions, everyone is eager to do their bit for the cause.
  • Full Team Walk
One of the most exciting initiatives is our Full Team Walk, where we’ll be stepping out together to support the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. It’s going to be a great way to build team spirit while raising money for a life-saving cause.

Our Fundraising Goal: £4000 and Beyond
Last year, with our previous Charity of the Year, Abby’s Heroes, we smashed our goal of £2500, raising an incredible amount for their worthy cause. This year, we’re aiming higher with a fundraising goal of £4000 for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. We’re passionate about raising even more in the years to come, and we’re excited to see how much we can achieve together as a team and give back to causes that need it.

The ultimate goal of a recruitment agency is to match the right talent with the right job

How do recruitment agencies work? A guide to the different ways recruitment agencies work, including how to match the right candidate to the right job role, fees, etc.

Recruitment agencies work in various different ways. The ultimate goal of a recruitment agency is to match the right talent with the right job role and company. Call us corporate matchmakers if you will.

The way that recruitment agencies make their money can be different, some recruiters work on a flat fee if the candidate they sourced was selected for a role. Other recruiters take a percentage pay based on the annual salary for the role. Recruitment agencies are running a business after all, however, there are good recruitment agencies and less than ideal ones.

It is important to speak to the recruitment agency you are looking to work with, as a candidate as well as a business. If they are not transparent in how they make money or withhold information from you; that’s a huge red flag and you should consider your options.

Ultimately finding the right recruitment agent is key to ensuring that the right talent is in the right roles. Recruiting is expensive, even if you as a business decide to do it in house. That is why working with a recruitment agency can be beneficial as we work to align your needs as a business with the best talent on the market.

Now we understand how the basics of a recruitment agency works, what does a recruitment agency do to make this happen?

Sourcing Candidates

One of the tasks that recruitment agencies need to do is source candidates. This can be done by outreaching online to those who have set public profiles as interested/open to work.

Additionally, we have secure databases that we are able to use to help us match current job offerings with potential candidates. This allows us to match up both the candidate’s interests and requirements with the company looking to recruit.

Advertising Job Roles

Another thing recruitment agencies do is advertise roles they are recruiting for. Recruiting new talent is time consuming and takes a lot of effort for companies. Using a recruitment agent to advertise and pre-vet candidates helps those companies as well as proves beneficial for the candidates themselves.

Supporting both Companies and Candidates

Recruitment agencies also work to support both companies looking to recruit as well as candidates.

It is important for us as a recruitment company to align the company we are recruiting for with the right candidates and talent. We are there to answer any questions and support candidates with interview preparation and more.

Our team are also experts in European recruitment and are able to assist with information relating to work permits and additional qualifications.

How to Work with Us as a Candidate

There are two ways in which you as a candidate can work with us. The first way is to view our jobs board and apply for any jobs relevant to your experience and skills. This is a great way if you are actively looking for new opportunities.

The second way you can work with us is to contact us and submit your information and be included in our database. This way our recruiters will be able to access your information should an opportunity arise that you are suited for.

Sourcing a Recruitment Agency as a Business

If you are a business looking to work with a recruitment agency there are some things you should consider.

The first consideration is whether your recruitment agent is an expert in your industry. Not every recruitment agency understands the nuances of specific industries and this can make it difficult to ensure the right candidate is selected. At FBR, we are experienced in recruiting for construction roles and the construction industry as a whole. We understand the importance of specific qualifications such as CSCS and NEBOSH.

Another important consideration is how they select candidates. Some recruitment agents select candidates by waiting for a submission. This can take time and if your recruiter isn’t working hard to find the right talent, are they the best recruiter for you?

Ultimately working with a recruitment agency should be easy and stress free for both parties. At FBR, we work with both candidates and companies to ensure that the selection process is easy and accessible. We focus on the right candidates and talent for the right company.
