Job Description

Sales Advisor Required.
I am currently recruiting on behalf of an electrical & mechanical & plumbing company based in Portsmouth. It is a growing M&E business who work on varied projects across the south of England. They now seek a graduate/trainee QS/Estimator to join the team on a permanent basis ranging salary between £35k – £40k p/a DOE. This will be a full-time office based permanent role, based in their office within Portsmouth.

This role offers a key supporting role within the estimating team, assisting in the preparation of accurate, detailed, and competitive tenders across a wide range of MEP and renewable energy projects. Working closely with senior estimators, project engineers, and procurement staff, you will help analyse drawings, specifications, and client requirements to produce high-quality cost estimates that reflect both technical accuracy and commercial value. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop technical and commercial estimating skills within a progressive, multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Assist in the review and interpretation of tender documents, drawings, and specifications for MEP and renewable projects.
  • Prepare material and labour take-offs for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and solar PV systems under supervision.
  • Obtain and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Support the production of detailed cost estimates, tender documents, and value engineering proposals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of material, labour, and plant costs in the estimating database.
  • Contribute to estimating schedules, risk assessments, and tender summaries.
  • Collaborate with internal design, engineering, and project delivery teams to ensure the accuracy and feasibility of estimates.
  • Assist in developing innovative and cost-effective solutions for decarbonisation and energy efficiency projects.
  • Attend site visits, pre-tender, and post-tender meetings where required.
  • Support continuous improvement in estimating processes and documentation.
Skills Required:
  • Basic understanding of MEP systems or a strong desire to develop knowledge in this area.
  • Confident using Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical ability.
